The GOP report reveals that former CIA senior adviser Nick Shapiro drafted a media pitch for a letter signed by 51 former intelligence officials, which aimed to paint the laptop at the center of the New York Post's story as a Russian operation in October 2020. Shapiro then offered the letter exclusively to media outlets like the Associated Press, The Washington Post, and Politico, before forwarding it to Bates of the Biden campaign.
The letter was subsequently published by Politico, just two weeks before the election, and was shared by Bates on Twitter. In the following months, the "Russian disinformation" narrative continued to be promoted by several members of the Biden campaign and later administration, including Jen Psaki and Kate Bedingfield.
During the final debate against former President Donald Trump, Biden himself referred to the laptop as a "Russian plant" and a "bunch of garbage." Even in December 2020, when asked if he believed the laptop was Russian disinformation, Biden replied, "Yes, yes, yes."
However, recent investigations have cast doubt on the credibility of this narrative. The New York Post's initial report on the laptop in October 2020 led to widespread censorship of the article on social media platforms, including Twitter. Michael Morell, former CIA Deputy Director, testified last month that Secretary of State Antony Blinken "played a role in the inception" of the letter discrediting the laptop story, signed by intelligence officials.
House Oversight Republicans have now revealed that the Biden family and its business associates created more than 20 companies and received over $10 million from foreign nationals, including in China and Romania, while Joe Biden served as vice president. The committee is currently investigating these companies, their connections, and the reasons behind the foreign nationals' engagement with the Biden family and their businesses.
